Consultation – inspection arrangements for initial teacher education from September 2025

From September 2025, we will be introducing new inspection arrangements for initial teacher education (ITE). Now is an important time for us to reflect and review so that we can ensure our work has the biggest impact where it’s needed the most.

This consultation is for all who will have an interest in the new inspection arrangements for initial teacher education, including:

• students studying an ITE programme or former student teachers
• leaders, teaching staff and governors from schools
• university-based leaders and education professionals involved with ITE programmes
• education professionals and leaders from local authorities and regional school improvement services
• the Education Workforce Council
• Medr, the Commission for Tertiary Education and Research
• the Quality Assurance Council for Higher Education
• the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol
• public and voluntary sector stakeholders

The consultation responses, along with other engagement activity with stakeholders, will inform how we can best shape new and effective inspection arrangements from September 2025 onwards.
