What is a Lay Inspector?

Lay Inspectors are members of the general public without a background in education. We train these individuals to join our school inspections.

The lay inspector focuses on the experience of school for pupils and the contribution that the relationships and environment make to their safety, attitudes to learning and wellbeing. They do not inspect the quality of education directly.

What experience is required to be a Lay Inspector?

  • You cannot have been employed in a school or the education department of a local authority
  • You can have been a volunteer or a governor in a school
