Estyn seeks views on how it inspects education and training in Wales

The views of parents, teachers, children, young people and everyone with an interest in education are being sought by Estyn, the education and training inspectorate. A six-week consultation, launched today, seeks opinions on the way schools, colleges and other providers will be inspected from September 2017.

Meilyr Rowlands, Chief Inspector, says:

“Education makes a vital contribution to improving the lives of our children and young people. Inspections are a way of ensuring that our education system is the best that it can be.  We are keen to hear the views of individuals and organisations on all aspects of inspection, including what we report, the judgements we make and how we take account of parents’ and learners’ views.

“This is an opportunity to influence changes to inspections in Wales.  I encourage everyone with an interest in education to take part in the consultation on how Estyn will inspect in the future.”

The consultation questionnaire is available on the Estyn website at www.estyn.gov.wales/consultation which also includes a youth friendly version. We will be meeting focus groups of education professionals and we welcome feedback on the inspection process outside of the questionnaire, which can be emailed or posted to Estyn.

The consultation period runs until Wednesday 11th November 2015.
